Burdened Dawn Episode 4

Episode 4: Finding Help

That night, Henry went to the local pub in order to find help for his unfortunate situation. As the electric door swung open he was greeted by a less than friendly sight. The pub was dirty and smelled like a garbage can. Inside the most intense people Henry had ever seen stared at him with merciless hunger. Henry still couldn’t believe this was the suburbs.

His whole life this place seemed like an attainable goal for somebody like him. However, all Henry had seen his entire trip was poverty near the level of the train tracks. He wondered if the city would even be better than this. Perhaps it was all a lie, put together by wishful thinkers. Henry pushed the thought aside forcing himself to focus on the threat at hand.

“I’m looking for passage into the city, does anybody have advice?” Henry asked plainly, the attention already fully focused on him.

The crowd in front of him hardly answered in glee. They stayed silent and returned to their conversations apparently deciding Henry was no longer a threat. Henry didn’t know whether to be offended or relieved to have all the focus so quickly shifted away from him. He looked around hoping to see anyone still willing to hear him out. He saw nothing not a person in the room still noticed his existence.

That’s when Henry locked his eyes on a board at the end of the room. On the board only a single piece of paper was pinned with a scary looking man and a sum of money at the bottom of the sheet. He was a mercenary for hire who went by the name of Vega. Perhaps, this was the man who could help him. He hardly had enough money to afford it, but the way he saw it he was running out of options.

“The Sky’s the Limit”

“Never give up on your dreams”

Episode 5: My Heavenly Limitations

When I was a kid, I wanted more than anything to be an astronaut. I fantasized day and night about being among the stars in the gorgeous tapestry of space. My parents never liked the idea and told me to “have a solid back up plan”. Over the years the pestering wore me down. By the time I was in high school I had given up on my dreams.

I ended up inheriting my parents farm, It was a responsible financial choice. It was the right thing to do, it would make my parents proud. After that I married the girl my friends thought was hottest and got the car they thought was the coolest. I wore what my neighbors wore so I fit in and had kids because its what you do.

Now I’m forty sitting on the hill of whats now “my farm” looking at the stars above me. I finally have the wisdom to see that my need for safety destroyed my life. My need to fit in cost me every decision I ever made. My fear of failure cost me a future in the stars. The ironic thing is my parents have passed, and the friends I wanted to impress has faded from my life. The only thing i’m left with is a family that I didn’t really choose and a life I didn’t choose.

Now you’ve heard my tale so hear my plea. Follow your dreams no matter the cost. The only one you should be impressing is yourself. People fade but the person you become, the things you do, the legacy you leave it will last forever. Don’t be like me, follow your dreams.

KSI VS Logan Paul 2

My Thoughts On This Weekends Historic Boxing Clash In LA, and It’s Effects on the Sport

By: Levi Wyatt

Spoiler Warning for KSI VS Logan Paul 2 (DUH)

This weekend, one of the biggest boxing events of all time finally took place. Logan Paul, the controversial mega star finally got his rematch with his British arch rival KSI. In their first battle last year the event ended in a perfect draw. Now, they’d be robbed of their head guard’s and both of them wanted blood. This match from the beginning took the world by storm. It happened so explosively that I think many of us are left asking “Now what?” Id like to look back and consider how this massive fight effected the sport I love so dearly. I understand how different this is from my usual material, but personally I have a ton to say about it. So without further a due, lets get into Logan Vs KSI 2.

In the lead up to this fight, I thought Logan had a major mental edge. The media build up to this event gave me flash backs to Mayweather vs Mcgreggor. Logan spent little time convincing us of his skill, and spent a lot of his energy cutting at KSI. This isn’t a new strategy by any means. Yet, Logan escalated it much farther than fight fans were ever used to. He predicted a first round decapitation, sported an atrocious mustache, and came at KSI for his lack of math skills. Unlike Floyd, you could see many moments were Logan broke KSI’s cool with his jokes and showboating. All around it seemed Logan had mentally gotten into KSI’s defenses. That mixed with his imposing size led to a massive favoring of Logan leading into the fight. During this time KSI was more focused on showcasing his killer team and intense training, something Logan should have taken seriously. As the fight approached closer, tempers only got hotter, and as the fight came to a start the tension had become indescribable.

During the first two rounds, it was a very different story. Logan at times had his guard as low as his hips. He hugged in a repeated and unprofessional way. He tried fighting conservatively, but without the defensive skills to back it up, he seemed overwhelmed. KSI on the other hand came ready to fight. In the first half KSI landed several incredible punches. All in all, the fight was much different than the mind games. Logan’s groundbreaking confidence had left him. As they swung into the third, it seemed to be over for Logan. With KSI landing a beautiful hook overhand combination and knocking him down to his knees. Yet, Logan looked far from ready to give up the fight.

In the second half Logan seemed to be gaining a little more control. He started the fourth bringing the fight back to an even exchange. To many it seemed he was ready to turn this fight around. That’s when everything changed, Logan grabbed KSI and held him in place with his arm, then punched him to the ground. After that, he struck him while he was still on the mat. The ref immediately withdrew two points for the foul. Also deciding he would save him from the cancellation of his knockdown. For the rest of the fight KSI went back to controlling the match landing several powerful shots, while Logan was never able to recover from his lost points.

When all the dust had settled, the judges called it a split decision. KSI was given the victory and it was finally over. The Nightmare KSI remained the champion and Logan was in shock. Logan and his couch think the call was a bad one. They think they are the rightful winners. I personally disagree, Logan Cheated, His only knockdown realistically shouldn’t of counted and he definitely hit a man while downed. In my opinion he lost not by a split but to a significantly better boxer. He wasn’t ever in control of the fight and the judges were right to award KSI the belt.

So what will this event do for boxing? Frankly, a lot actually, Logan and KSI brought excitement back to this sport. It brought eyes and ears away from everything for one night to show the world the incredible entertainment of boxing. No matter the mistakes they made or the lessons they were faced with, they were both fearless and deserve the utmost respect. Personally, I think they both need a lot more work, but that’s whats so amazing about boxing to begin with there’s so much to learn, you could spend a life on it. Logan has time to work on his guard and his wrestling issues or the time to do something else entirely. What matters is that they worked there hardest and were brave enough to take the leap.

Thank you for reading guys! Sorry for the oddball post. Our next post should be on Thursday at our usual time. I hope to see each and everyone of you again, enjoy the rest of your day, thanks again for reading! Goodbye!Β

Episode 6: Twisted Family

As Maddie and her Grandfather cautiously entered the throne room, the thought of their family, still alive and well, was their only source of bravery. The dark, disturbing, marble walls had a way of sucking the torchlight from the room. Pockets of light were speckled through the room and the hallway beyond it. However, everywhere else was as dark as obsidian. It would be easy to stealthily move about in order to find her family.

They moved quickly, but silently. With every torch they would duck and weave around in order to remain hidden. After moving past the Kraken throne, Maddie saw nothing but rooms of equal beauty. More requisite black marble walls and tall ceilings were everywhere you looked. When Maddie and Grandpa stopped in a bedroom it was slick and well designed, and had many paintings that looked highly valuable.

Whoever lived here had been stealing valuable goods for years using his beast. Maddie couldn’t imagine how many people they had hurt. Grandpas looked sharp and brooding. Like something was worrying him. His brow had an extra four wrinkles layered in.

“Whats wrong Grandpa?” Maddie cautiously asked

“This bedroom looks lived in be careful.” he muttered

As he said it, like a curse, the family started walking down the hallway. talking to each other in smooth warm voices like caramel millionaires. The pair ducked under the bed as they walked by there was five of them a woman, a man, and two kids. They were talking about a new shipment from ‘Beasty’. That must have been its name.

Then in a horrifying instant the family stops walking all together. Maddie’s heart starts beating like a drum. Silence for many seconds each stretching for hours in her panicked mind. She prayed in desperation they were well hidden enough. However, praying wouldn’t be enough. In that moment the room went cold and Murphy took control. In unison, the entire family spoke in a villainous hiss.

“I smell humans” Maddie’s heart stopped, they had been found.

Episode 3: The Border Guard

As Henry approached the cities border his shoulders became even stiffer than before. His heart thumped so loud he could now hear it as clear as a gong. Fear and worry filled him like an over blown balloon. The excessive security measures disheartened him even more than the impoverished suburbs.

Everything there was elite, only the best of the best for the city guard of course. The wall surrounding the city was at least 30 feet tall with turrets every ten yards. The security guards were dangerous androids with tormenting glowing eyes. Each was suppose to be more dangerous than a hundred people. The gate was many layers thick with a scanner sitting directly above ready to look through all deception.

Henry’s analysis was simple, it would be impossible to get into the city alone. He’d need to assemble a group of people capable of a highly complex break in. He certainly had little money to hire any professionals. He definitely had no favors out here in the suburbs. He’d need to find exceptional people desperate to get out themselves, and he knew just where to look.

Henry turned to head towards the suburbs, in order to get more help. For one bone chilling second Henry’s eyes met with the androids. Their piercing blue scanners taking him apart pathologically gave Henry chills. They looked so human yet so soulless it made him regret his new goal.

Henry would have to find help and sneak past them by tonight if he wanted to get to a ship. The more he moved the more conflict seemed to pile up in front of him. Even though he felt hopeless he knew what was important. His sister wouldn’t have forever, he had to keep going. Everything Depended on it…

A Case For Reading

10 Reasons Why I Think Reading Remains to this Day, the Greatest Form of Entertainment.

The Views Expressed In This Article Are My Personal Opinion They Are Not Fact And Should Be Taken With A Grain Of Salt.

This post may be a little different than you guys are used to. However, it is something I’ve always longed to write about. I often think about why I pursue language in the midst of things like blockbuster movies and hit television shows. I mean, trying to compete against high tech productions with hundreds of people armed only with a pen and pad is surely a fool’s task right? It’s akin to running into Area 51 with only a bow and arrow, arguably a very unwinnable battle. So if there are so many disadvantages why do I do it? Despite the advantages, other mediums have over writing, in my opinion,  it remains to this day the greatest form of entertainment. Here are my ten reason why.

1.) Books Have Unlimited Battery

Have you ever been at the park, or the mall, when that dreaded moment changes everything. Your phones screen goes black, and all connection to music, videos, and social media is beyond your grasp. We both know that you aren’t going to socialize at this point poor planning has ruined your outing. Sure you can buy a portable charger but nobodies perfect, it could easily be forgotten. That’s where carrying a book becomes a life saver. In the dessert, on an island, even in Antarctica a book guarantees you eight hours worth of entertainment. No WiFi is needed, no charging port, nothing but the book fully in tact. If it’s a good enough book to reread, its worth double the time. Books remain the most reliable form of entertainment with hours of unassisted enjoyment in every chapter no strings attached.

2.) Reading Expands Your Perspective

Every time you read, you take on the perspective of not only the writer, but the character you’re reading. Often when you finish a book or story you can see through a completely different lens. You can understand the thoughts of a twelve year old child, or a forty year old business mogul. In a movie or show the short time and low access to inner dialogue makes the same feat one in a million. It is indisputable that books have a special ability to expand the way you view the world. They transform you into a multi dimensional thinker, instead of a person trapped in a single way of being raised and thinking.

3.) Reading Makes You Smarter

Reading will make you a smarter person. It will increase your vocabulary, and allow you to speak in a more well worded manner. It will enhance your ability to think quickly and solve problems. It will allow you to think in a more three dimensional way. When you watch Netflix (Depending on the show) at best the effect is a neutral one, if not blatantly making less mentally capable. When you read however, you constantly get smarter and smarter while still being entertained.

4.) You Can Improve Reading With Technology

If you’re willing to forgo the benefits of point one, there’s been a huge expanse of reading material on the internet over the last 20 years. While finding a well written book was a challenge, once upon a time, its easier now then its ever been. Services like audible and You tube have audio books at the ready. Writer post free content everyday on social media like Instagram and Twitter. All in all there has never been a better time to start reading with hundreds of amazing stories always at your finger tips

5.) Reading is Magical

When you read an amazing thing happens. You stop noticing the words on the page and see through the characters eyes. Your imagination takes a grip of you and it takes you to an amazing place often filled with beautiful lessons. Its a deeply personal and magical experience that is hard to match any other way. The amount of passion and adventure you can find is unlimited so find your genre and sit down by the fire place, I promise its worth your time.

Thank you for reading guys! Our next post will be a little more normal. It should be on Thursday at our usual time. I hope to see each and everyone of you again, enjoy the rest of your day, thanks again for reading! Goodbye πŸ˜€

Episode 2: The Hustle

Henry laid in bed as silent, and still as a possum. The sound of his mothers radio in the office next door kept him paralyzed. His sister was already curled up with blankets snoring like a sailor. She had not shed a single tear the entire night. She was braver than anyone Henry had ever met. He was sure, now more than ever, this is what he had to do. His sister didn’t deserve a life of blindness he couldn’t sit around and wait any longer. The second the radio clicked off and Henry’s mother slipped into bed, he made his move. He got dressed quietly, taking his time with each and every movement. Quickly, he packed a backpack full of supplies. Soon as Henry knew for sure his mother was dozed off, he slipped out the window and started walking west.

It took about an hour to escape the train tracks. hundreds of unfortunate souls had houses going for as far as Henry could see. Once he finally escaped he realized it didn’t get much better past the tracks. Despite his notion that the suburbs were as lively as the wealthy city, the streets seemed war torn and savage. The buildings were shredded and gave the eerie feeling they may collapse. The suburb was just as bad as the harshest parts of the tracks. Henry had been lied to his whole life.

Henry was able to easily keep walking past the dilapidated city with little issue. It was abandoned for the most part. The city streets were mainly populated by rats and similar rodents. Not a single person could be viewed even with perfect vision.

Henry felt like he’d go into shock, his legs were made of lead, his veins were filled with bleach. Henry had dreamed of making it out his whole life. Buying a house in the suburbs and living better than his parents did. The truth was as heavy as an avalanche weighing down his chest stealing the breath from his lungs. There was no middle class, the entirety of their society was in ruins to maintain a lavish lifestyle another hour down the road. Meanwhile him and his sister were destined to suffer. It was all in the plan.

Henry was beginning to doubt his plan, it would be a challenging journey. The city was dangerous, how long would he be able to stay there. Would making credits even be possible? No, Henry had to adapt, he could board a ship and fly somewhere with more to offer. Like his dad had tried to do many years ago. Whatever happened Henry would be forced to find a way out and to help his family, the clock was ticking and nothing was gonna bring him down.

Episode 1: Henry Levesque

Henry Levesque, while legendary, was not a man born into his privilege. He was born on the peculiar planet Ra kai. It was a wildly dangerous place to live at the time. The super wealthy, self proclaimed, C.E.O of the Galaxy Rorlack Lexington had destroyed the middle class and created a state of wealth imbalance unlike anything earth has ever seen. In the city the rich live like goddess’s eating gourmet food and sleeping in incredible estates. While the normal people like Henry had to struggle just to eat. If that wasn’t bad enough, he had a little sister to feed too. Ana bell was only ten, meaning all she could do was hide in their tiny closet sized apartment. You wouldn’t have recognized that Henry, the young twenty year old willing to do anything to survive.

Henry lived on Mcbuba Avenue, in the deepest part of the projects. Here on the streets its known as the train tracks. They call it that because the avenue isn’t an actual road. Its a bunch of tiny storage unit sized houses along an abandoned train track. It’s the type of place where everyone knows everybody, where family is more than just blood, and where everyone knows how to defend themselves.

Mcbuba Ave.

Our story begins in the coldest part of the year. This time of year many people worry if they may die of cold or starvation. The crops die out and the animals hibernate. Food becomes scarce and that always means casualties. That’s why when Henry walked in the house with a big smile on his face Anabel was almost scared. That is, until he dropped a big bag of mushrooms onto the table. She immediately understood and got a similar smile on her face.

“I found a mushroom cave,” Henry exclaimed with glee.

“Thank you, this is wonderful brother we’ll be fed for days.” she wrapped him in a big embrace.

Henry sat down with his family for dinner. His mother was thanking him graciously for his work foraging in the woods. It was so kind, that Henry was actively insisting he was only doing his share out of pure embarrassment. His sister Anabel was so busy stuffing mushrooms in her mouth she was unable to say anything at all. Despite their rough environment, tonight was a good night.

“Darling we need to tell you something, but you have to promise to not do anything…crazy.” She said it with the caution of a grieving mother.

The news hit him like a bullet train, he felt violently ill his sister would go blind within the year. Progressive sight loss, the only way to stop it would be a 3000 credit surgery. Henry had not seen that type of money in his entire life. His sister would be doomed to a life of darkness if he couldn’t make real money quickly.

Millennium City

Despite his oath to his mother that he would simply go to bed, he needed to do something. There was no money here in the train tracks the only way to save her would be to sneak into the city to find work. It will be dangerous, and illegal but he has no choice. As he finished his diner he made a silent but potent oath, only to his god and himself. Yet, it would stick with him the rest of his life. That day he swore to rise above for his family and for himself.

“If you have a problem with that, I could always eat you”

“What makes this YOUR bridge?”

Back at the village, Uma had packed a large hide bag full of supplies. In it, she had every essential item she may need. She had medical kits, rations, rope, even a bedroll. Uma was well prepared and always armed with her trusty wand. She felt like no challenge could stop her, not even a dragon, or an ogre.

Uma started her journey at the crest of the hill hours ago. Now she was well over ten miles from the village. Her mission led her to an astonishingly handy cobble trail that weaved smoothly into the mountains. For almost a day, nothing disturbed her. Uma was able to keep a brilliant pace. If anything, her pet coyote hunting for food had antagonized any creatures living here.

As Uma walked further, under cover of the setting sun, she approached a roaring river. The only way to cross was a sturdy stone bridge. As Uma approached the bridge, a disgusting monstrosity crawled from underneath it.

It had green fur covered in long tendrils of spider webs. It was towering and thin, at least seven feet in height. Its mouth, filled with fangs, had been fixed in a sinister grin.

“Hello little one, would you like to cross my bridge?” He sneered with a toxic breath

“What makes this YOUR bridge?” She asked indignantly, holding her hand to her wand.

The creature looked at her, deeply shaken. His toothy grin became a haughty leer.

“How dare you, girl! I am a troll, my father and my father’s father guarded this bridge.” he roared in a vindictive raving. His teeth were inches from her face now as sharp as razor blades.

“I’m sorry if I offended you, I had no idea of your families esteem.” She said sheepishly, admittedly regretting her initial reaction.

“If you wish to cross the bridge, you must answer a riddle, it is tradition,” He said much calmer now.

“If you have a problem with that, I could always eat you,” The troll threatened callously.

“No, no, there’s no problem I’ll answer your riddle.” She insisted.

Uma thought this troll was an emotional mess. He was bouncing between rage and sensitivity. She didn’t know whether to attack him or apologize.

“I’m as light a feather, yet no man can hold me for long, what am I?” The creature hissed.

Uma thought about her riddle meticulously. It could be something painful or unsafe. If it’s as light as a feather, there’s another reason it can’t be held. Uma thought maybe it could be something cold, hot, or possibly even poisonous.

Uma was sitting there frustrated, pondering the many possible answers. If she was in-correct, her quest would be ended. Without a way to cross the river, Uma would be forced to return all the way home. Uma needed to think, and she had no time to do it.

4 Tips for New Adventurers

Dear new adventurers,
My alias is Nathaniel Berknalawitz I’m an experienced adventurer, of over 30 years of practice. I have noticed a troubling inclination in juvenile men and women dying gruesome deaths. Often, these deaths are undoubtedly avoidable and incredibly senseless. I have decided to maintain the carnage with the most distinguished bits of my knowledge. To achieve this, I’ve prepared these four tips on how to adventure and live to recount the tale.

1.) Be Prepared
Always bring the proper supplies before adventuring. The value of being fully prepared is immeasurable. The most notable thing in your pack is a rope. It has several uses including but not confined to formations, climbing, and tying foes. Another incredibly versatile tool is the knife. Fit for self-defense and all sorts of various duties. Food, water, and currency are also necessary before leaving home. If you’re going anywhere cold always bring a coat and a fire starter. In general, its good to prepare for any possible outcome. It’s better than being caught off guard.

2.) Watch Your Back
It’s always important to watch your back for any possible attack. It’s essential to be alert to a mixture of opponents. Do not hinder your hearing or scent. All of your senses are vitally significant while adventuring. Whenever you turn a corner, make sure to turn wide. Always keep your wits as sharp as your dagger. Pay attention at all times because watching around you could save your life

3.) A.S.A(Always Stay Armed)
No matter where you go, enemies exist. Agents of evil from the shadows of society that wish to harm you. That’s why it’s critical to carry a weapon during travel. Self-defense is a necessary part of being an adventurer. Protection is a fundamental device during a safe journey. Being profoundly skilled with your weapon also never hurts. It’s sad but true with dragons in the sky and giants in the hills an armament is indispensable.

4.) Navigation is Key
It’s important to continually know where you’re going while traveling. Getting lost almost perpetually ends in self-destruction. Always remember the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. Maps are an essential tool. Knowing how to read them is an even more essential skill. The use of proper navigation can save you and your parties life. I would suggest any aspiring adventurer learn how to use the map and compass. Otherwise you rest your fate in chance alone.

If you follow these four tips your chances of surviving an adventure will be greatly increased. At the end of the day the best way to survive is bravery and adaptability. Use your head and always follow your heart and the universe will guide you on your journey. Make sure to remember what you’re fighting for. Otherwise, All these tips are just in vein. good luck on your travels fellow adventurers. I hope to see you soon.

Kraken Episode 4

A Kraken is a terrifying beast. Ten times the size of a fishing ship, with ten tentacles winding around its slimy body. It was a horror to witness. Every nerve in her body felt numb and dead. Her fear was like lava flowing through her body. She was a sitting duck. Unable to move or think. Above her, was a massive unstoppable creature. Worse of all it was hungry.
With one of its massive coils, it lifted Maddie. Its strength was so great it was much like lifting a feather for the beast.
“Please…” She croaked desperately
It stopped for a second looking at her with confusion. Perhaps, the Kraken had thought she was some kind of fish or seal.
Can this massive creature understand English? Its eyes widen as if curious about her. Could it be discovering I am different? She knew that she had to keep talking.
“I can help you if you just don’t hurt me,” She cried desperately. It continued to look at her, intrigued by the sounds Maddie was creating.
It had never heard a language before. Its big black eyes seemed to be as deep as the abyss. The Kraken also seemed to give recognition in his eyes. Maddie remembered reading how intelligent octopi are. They can open cages and understand words. Octopi this enormous would have an even greater understanding.
“Please let me down” She demanded in a harsh tone.
To Maddie’s surprise, the creature humored her. The Kraken put her down in the soft dirt. Maddie’s body was still paralyzed, but she could now talk with relative ease.
A chilling thought occurred to her this thing had created the paralysis poison. It wasn’t anything that could be considered natural. This creature was highly intelligent. The Kraken stared at Maddie and her grandfather. I’m sure he was Considering if he planned to go through with mercy. After deciding these children probably wouldn’t taste good anyway he sunk beneath the surface again.
Maddie sat there for many minutes hoping it would not return. To her surprise, the paralysis wore down before it did.
“It never wanted humans it must be confused.” A gruff older voice remarked
Maddie cheered and limped over to the sound. Her grandfather was finally awake! With the poison wore off she was able to speak to him at last.
“You have a lot of explaining to do” She scolded.
Her Grandfather laughed at the remark and agreed.
“We certainly aren’t in Kansas anymore” He joked. He was finally taking a look around the cave in awe.
“Alright, I’m sure you have a ton of questions…” He said.
“That’s a huge understatement.” She shot back finally with the feeling of safety and the lingering thought of the returning creature on her mind. This was only beginning.
